The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA), also known as healthcare reform applies new requirements to the health care industry, including provisions that impact carriers, agents, providers, and individuals/employers seeking health coverage. The new requirements have various effective dates ranging between 2010 and 2014 with much of the detail yet to be issued by the Department of Health and Human Services.
Some of the 2010 Time Lines/Important Dates include:
- Effective immediately: existing business grandfathered // Small business tax credit (up to 35%)
- June-July 2010: High risk pool created // Early retiree reinsurance program
Plan years beginning 9/23/2010 and later:
- Adult children coverage to 26 regardless of student status, marital status
- No pre-existing condition exclusions for children under 19
- Preventive Care Services coverage
- Lifetime maximums lifted
